Dr. Andy Hodges

Developmental Editor / Line & Copyeditor / Sensitivity Reader

Pronouns: he/they

Genres: YA and adult fantasy, especially literary fantasy, urban fantasy, dark fantasy, fairytale and myth retellings, soft science fiction, science fantasy, and queer speculative fiction. Outwith fantasy, I work on horror, queer romance, and ecological fiction.

Styles: Chicago Manual of Style (US) / New Hart's Rules (UK)

Fantasy worlds have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. That drive to understand other perspectives deeply first led me to work as a cultural anthropologist for over a decade, before I retrained as a fiction editor.

As a queer editor, I’m especially drawn to projects with queer protagonists and perspectives.

I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), with training in copyediting and developmental editing from the University of Chicago, the Editorial Freelancers Association, and the CIEP. I’ve edited YA fantasy and LGBTQ+ fiction for Harper Fire and Penguin imprints (including Viking, Putnam, and Philomel), St. Martin’s Press, and other leading US traditional publishers, including work by New York Times bestselling authors and Hugo Award finalists.

Outside of editing, I’m a trail runner, mushroom forager, and speculative fiction writer. I also work as a sensitivity reader, consulting on queer masculine experience and cultural anthropology.

Han Noss

Proofreader / Sensitivity Reader

Pronouns: they/them

Genres: YA, NA, adult, and children's fantasy, especially dark fantasy, fairytale and myth retellings, epic fantasy, dystopian, magical realism, fables, and portal fantasy. Always interested in queer novels and environmental novels, and especially intrigued by historical fantasy set pre-1066.

Styles: New Hart's Rules (UK)

I grew up reading fantasy novels that rarely included even the possibility of people like me, and this has shaped exactly what I want to work on. Neurodivergent and non-binary, I'm always looking to encourage and help writers represent themselves and their loved ones in the publishing world. I am an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, where I've trained specifically in proofreading, a member of the London Writers' Salon and host of their LGBTQIA+ and Flash Fiction writing groups, and a freelance proofreader for Head of Zeus and Penguin Viking. As a sensitivity reader, I'm open to all projects, but my experience as a neurodivergent and non-binary person will always be shaped by being a white person living in England.
